Cooked from scratch in their Lea Bridge Kitchen, DabbaDrop are on a mission to change the way we consume takeaways with their delicious ethical, zero-waste South Asian food. We speak to Co-Founders Ashnu and Renée about their business’s journey and the importance of choosing local.

Hi Ashnu and Renée. Tell us how DabbaDrop came to be when and why did you start the business? DabbaDrop was born in 2018 out of the need for a tasty takeaway that doesn’t come at the cost of the planet. We were sick of ordering substandard takeaways that arrived in a puff of smoke, leaving you feeling bloated and guilty with a pileup of plastic containers left afterwards. We knew there must be a better way.

What do you think makes DabbaDrop stand out? DabbaDrop is a takeaway by subscription that delivers restaurant-quality, plant-based meals in reusable containers (the ‘dabba’) by bike (the ‘drop’) - a closed loop system. Because we always know how many we're cooking for, we have zero waste in the kitchen. Good for you, good for the planet.

What makes Lea Bridge and the business community here special? The friendliness of the people who work here –everyone is always willing to lend a hand, whether it’s someone accepting a delivery on your behalf or a neighbour lending some kitchen equipment.

Why should people support local businesses? We started our business with the help of friends and families who live locally and we’ve grown organically since then so we’re very much a local business. Shopping with local businesses means more local jobs providing local introductions, creating a community and good vibes which is a great thing for everyone.

Where do you like to visit/shop locally? We LOVE Hanoi Ca Phe for all our office lunch needs. We love J Currie Designs for bespoke furniture and carpentry, Turning Earth for ceramics and the Monument store for amazing stone sculpture and beyond!
