Turning Earth is a ceramics studio based in the Argall Industrial area. They have unique facilities that are open to everyone, regardless of any previous interest or skill level We caught up with Lewis, managing director of Turning Earth to discuss what makes the creative studio such a special space.
Can you tell me about when and why you started your business? Turning Earth opened its pilot studio in December 2013. The intention was to bring ceramics back into public life and make it affordable and accessible for all.
What is special about your business and makes it stand out? We offer ceramic facilities for all in spacious, bright, and accessible studios. Students, hobbyists and thriving professionals make up a buoyant community. We share ideas, learn new skills together, foster friendships and develop our skills.
What makes Lea Bridge and the business community here special? We are amid diverse studios, commercial and industrial businesses cafes, and breweries right next to Walthamstow marshes. This makes it a great place for the community to work or just visit and relax.
Why should people support local businesses/ why are local customers important to you? A strong sense of community cohesion makes people feel more at home and better connected. People will then be more willing to engage, and more rooted in their environment.
Where do you like to visit/shop locally? We love all the local cafes and restaurants and use many of the local traders, such as timber, electrical, and plumbers merchants.
